You get most out of visiting the temples when you have a theme. You can see them chronogically, watching culture change with time. You can visit them by order of importance. Simple is also good when you are short on time, and visiting them in order of location works well also. A favorite theme is visiting the temples you might have seen in movies, such as Laura Croft Tomb Raider. A good minimum time to see the temples is at least three days. Five days is better and of course you can stay as long as you wish.

One thing you might consider doing before visiting the temples is to spend some time at Siem Reap's Angkor National Museum. Preparing yourself by hearing expert explanations of the rich history of the area will make viewing the temples so much more meaningful.
